March 24, 2022. On the occasion of Industry Day, celebrated yesterday in Bizkaia, Aludium’s Amorebieta plant collaborated with FVEM, the Biscayan Federation of Metal Companies, in actions that have been carried out throughout the school year bringing the industry closer to 3,000 young people from Bizkaia with the aim of promoting STEM vocations. Yesterday morning, 700 students from 28 high school and vocational training classes from all over Bizkaia visited 28 companies in the metal sector in Bizkaia, including Aludium. Yesterday’s session is part of the ‘Industria Erronka’ project.
Objective: awaken passion for STEM disciplines
“Promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) vocations among the new generations is a responsibility of all the actors in society, where companies in the metal sector must play a leadership role” explains Joaquim Vaz, VP of Human Resources & EHS of Aludium. “At Aludium, as a responsible company committed to education and the social and economic development of the communities in which it operates, we promote visits by young students in which we show them the factories and our production process, we talk to them about possible job opportunities and Above all, we try to arouse their passion and curiosity, placing special interest in the female gender, for science, technology and engineering”, adds the person in charge.
Three scheduled visits
In line with the above, and framed within the actions that culminated yesterday in Industry Day, the Aludium plant in Amorebieta, Bizkaia, received a visit from the 1st year Bachiller students from the Instituto Ellacuria Zurbarán of Bilbao. Yesterday, March 23, it was the turn of the students of the Politeknika Ikastegia Txorierri, of the 1st year of Machining (Intermediate Grade Training Cycle). In addition to these two visits, it is expected that the plant will receive a third one before the end of the school year.
During the visits, the students got to know the company and saw the aluminum production process at the Amorebieta plant. The Rolling Mill Operations Director, Alfonso Martínez, explained the production process to the students and the Hot Rolling Production Manager, Jorge Macías, led the tour of the plant with headphones. In addition, they met and shared the motivating personal and professional experience of Olaia Bengoa, Cold Rolling process engineer, and Mikel Garay, Hot Rolling process engineer, since both began their professional careers at Aludium as interns.
At Aludium we encourage students to visit our factories so that they can discover professional possibilities for their future work while learning about the immense properties and applications that aluminum has, an infinitely recyclable material that is present in numerous everyday objects and elements of our life. Albert Einstein said that “scientists investigate what already is and engineers create what has never been”. At Aludium we work and collaborate with leading sector entities to create new realities.
