Alicante. February 21, 2022. At Aludium, we believe addressing climate change and “Accelerating the Low-Carbon Transition” requires serious commitment, action and investment by all actors – governments, individuals and companies.
We are proud Aludium already plays a role in supplying one of the world’s most sustainable materials – aluminum – infinitely recyclable and critical to so many low-carbon applications from packaging to batteries to electric vehicles to architectural projects. Our investments in recycling over the last 5 years have increased our recycled product mix to 70%, avoiding more than 2.5 million tons of C02 emissions per year.
Yet despite this progress, we will challenge ourselves to do more to accelerate the transition, ensuring we double our efforts across our entire company – from investments in recycling technology and renewable energy supply, to promoting further the well-being of our people and communities, to deeper partnerships with our customers. Together, we will make this the decade of change putting us on a path to inclusive growth and a global low-carbon economy.
Our action for this decade: climate and inclusive ambition
At ALUDIUM we are committed and we act to successfully achieve the ecological transition and build a more inclusive, equal and fair society. The decarbonization of the economy and the commitment by the private sector to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050 is essential to mitigate the effects of climate change, since the climate crisis is not only an environmental issue, but also a social and economic one.
Sustainability is strategic at Aludium and marks the way in which we carry out our activity. Consequently, and to lead this transition, in the last quarter of 2021 we created the Aludium Sustainability Council made up of seven members of the company’s executive management in order to promote sustainability policies from a transversal approach.
The management’s commitment to contribute to sustainable development is formally materialized with this council. The objectives of this committee are:
- Lead the sustainability culture and governance of Aludium, ensuring strategic support, investment and long-term thinking.
- Set ambitious targets to ensure Aludium’s role as a reference for Sustainability, where possible going beyond regulatory requirements.
- Ensure transparency, broad participation and communication.
Our goal is to take advantage of the opportunities offered by a changing, complex world, full of risks, but also opportunities to grow responsibly and add value to all our stakeholders. Aludium’s Sustainability Framework, set out below, summarizes our compromises.
