March 14, 2025. One of the priorities of Aludium’s social strategy is to promote gender equality both within the company and beyond. This year, to mark International Women’s Day, the company staged the 3rd Aludium Women’s Week. This awareness-raising campaign to promote gender equality and showcase the role played by women in society, sport and industry, began last Saturday, and ends today with 7 external activities involved, in partnership with our stakeholders.
The activities kicked off in Alicante with attendance at the Women’s Gala organized by Alicante City Hall, paying tribute to 7 women who sped up the pace of change in their professional sectors. Conchi Castelló, HR Manager at Aludium Alicante, represented the company at the event entitled ‘Groundbreaking Women’, to support and raise the profile of the female talent of leading women from the province.

On Friday the seventh – with the aim of fostering an inclusive and diverse culture, promoting the company, and generating a positive social impact – we held a gathering at the Amorebieta plant together with A.I.D.A.E (the Amorebieta-Etxano Association for the Integration of People with Disability), entitled ‘Care Sustains Life’. The event was headed by Estíbaliz Martín, president of the A.I.D.A.E. association, and her colleague María Torrado. The head of the organization highlighted the role played by women in caring for people with disability, and described a number of cases of women with disability who have faced problems breaking into the labour market.

On Sunday the ninth, we picked up the pace by competing in the Third Prosolia Alicante Women’s Race. This sporting and charitable initiative forms part of our healthy company project ‘Health Forever’, encouraging healthy lifestyles among our workforce to improve their well-being. A total of 28 people, including members of the workforce and their relatives, ran the 3-mile circuit, demonstrating our commitment to promoting an active lifestyle and gender equality.

Women in industry and support for STEM careers
Support for women in the industrial sector and the encouragement of STEM careers among girls and teenagers likewise had their part to play in the 3rd Aludium Women’s Week. Aludium Amorebieta was once again in attendance this year at the ‘Women and Industry’ day organized by FVEM, the Biscay Federation of Metal Companies, with the aim of raising the profile of female talent in the sector. This edition focused on highlighting sales and business development roles through the personal accounts of 4 female professionals from these areas. The day emphasized the need to bring in women at every level, from the shop floor to the boardroom, and to encourage STEM learning among both boys and girls, through their families. As has been seen at Aludium, the event also raised the difficulty in achieving parity in the production sphere, calling on younger generations to choose vocational training as part of their development.

Following on from the above, as it is essential to publicize STEM professions among girls and teenagers so as to bridge the gender gap in the sector, on Monday, March 11, engineering coordinator Laura Rodríguez and her financial services colleague Raquel García visited the fourth grade primary students at La Aneja school in Alicante. These talks help give greater prominence to female role models in scientific and technical areas. During the visit they explained production activity at the company, along with the world of industry, and above all urged girls to choose and take an interest in professions which have up until now been very much male-dominated.
Commitment to women’s and local sport
One of our main lines of action is to boost and showcase women’s sport. Within this sphere, on Wednesday the 12th the Pedro Ferrandiz sports hall in Alicante was the venue for a match between the HLA Alicante men’s basketball team and Oviedo. To mark International Women’s Day, during the break in play, Aludium was honoured by the Lucentum Foundation for its commitment and support in the field of women’s sport.

The company, which is the main sponsor of the women’s basketball team Aludium Lucentum, was handed a commemorative plaque. The accolade was collected by members of the company’s Equality Committee, while the match was attended by male and female employees from the Alicante plant, and their relatives. Videos are also being produced in partnership with Lucentum to give audiences a greater insight into the players on the Aludium Lucentum women’s basketball team, the first being released this week, in which a female fan of the team talks to Ana, one of the Aludium Lucentum players.
Aludium also sponsors two clubs playing the sports of Basque pelota and rugby in Amorebieta, Biscay. In 2024 the company underpinned its commitment to women’s and local sport by signing a sponsorship agreement for the 2024-2025 season with the women’s and men’s teams at the Urgozo rugby club, and the mixed team of the Lagun Onak Basque pelota club.
