Tree planting, organised by Aludium and the Anilia association, brings together 79 people at the Alicante plant

16 February 2024. Protecting the environment through actions aimed at fighting climate change and raising environmental awareness among our employees and other stakeholders, are part of our environmental sustainability plan. Regarding raising awareness, last Sunday a tree planting was carried out at Aludium’s Alicante plant in the area outside Cindal, our R+D+I (research, development, and innovation) centre.

This ecologically responsible activity, which consisted of planting 45 trees and 30 aromatic plants, was carried out jointly with the Anilia association, a non-profit association arising from the need to seek resources and provide services enabling the social and employment integration of people with a mental disability in the province of Alicante. Spending a fun day with family and co-workers while improving the environment and helping to reduce pollution was the plan devised by the company and enjoyed by 79 people, of whom 44 were Aludium employees and family members and 35 members of Anilia.

Anilia’s members began the activity with a brief training session on planting and the characteristics of the three tree species chosen: walnut, carob, and olive. During the session, 15 walnut trees, 15 carob trees and 15 olive trees were planted together with 10 rosemary, 10 sage, 5 thyme and 5 oregano bushes.

At the end of the activity, Aludium offered a lunch to those taking part and the association gave every volunteer gifts: a diploma, a pen from the association and seeds of different species to plant at home. Increasing the number of trees in our environment helps reduce CO2 emissions, restore ecosystems, and promote biodiversity.

    Combating climate change

Aluminium recycling in our production activity is an example of Aludium’s commitment to actively fighting climate change, together with the other areas covered within the “climate transition” hub of our sustainability strategy among which we can highlight designing certified low-carbon products to help customers and end users achieve their carbon reduction goals. Likewise, the certifications obtained by all our plants for meeting the highest environmental standards such as the ASI Chain of Custody standard, the Ecovadis qualification and ISO 14001.
